Jack Wylde (the pen name of Shawn Layman) is an exciting new voice joining the Phantom Publishing family. A dedicated husband and father of four, Jack lives and works in Indiana, balancing his passion for writing with his day job as an occupational therapist.

When he’s not helping patients or spending time with his family, you can find Jack co-hosting the paranormal podcast, Middle Aged and Creeped Out. His writing journey has been a lifelong pursuit—he’s been crafting stories in some form since he was young—and he’s now taking the leap to trust his voice and share his work with the world. For Jack, this venture is a testament to the idea that hard things are worth doing, a lesson he hopes to pass on to his wife and children.

The name Jack Wylde is deeply personal: Jack honors his grandfather’s boxing name and their beloved boxer dog, while Wylde is a tribute to his favorite comedian, Gene Wilder, and the celebrated writer, Oscar Wilde. It’s also the surname of a character, Victor Wylde, he’s been developing since 2018.
